Meredith Neumann, alto

Beginning in September, Meredith Neumann will be the new Upper School Choral Director of Renbrook School in West Hartford. Currently, Meredith is a teacher at Sedgwick Middle School, where she directs 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Choir as well as Sounds, the school’s select choral ensemble. She was also founder and director of the Sedgwick Six, a sextet of 8th grade students who specialized in early music and performed throughout the community. Outside of school, she is the conductor of the Connecticut Children’s Chorus “Concert Choir”, and will be taking the ensemble on a tour of Ireland this summer. She was previously the choral director at Timothy Edwards Middle School in South Windsor, where she directed the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ensembles as well as the award-winning show choir.

Meredith holds a Master's degree in Music Education from the Hartt School of Music, where she studied choral conducting. She earned an assistantship with Dr. John Feierabend and taught Music Education Vocal Methods at the University. While completing her graduate studies she served as co-director of the 2010 Hartford Women Composers Festival Choir.

In addition to her teaching and conducting appointments, Meredith is an active performer in the Greater Hartford region.  She has had the privilege of singing in several professional choral ensembles - most recently at the Cathedral of St. Joseph under the direction of Dr. Edward Bolkovac and Dr. Ezequiel Menendez. She has also served as a choral scholar at St. Patrick St. Anthony Church in downtown Hartford, St. James Episcopal Church, Farmington, and Vallis Musicae, a regional community chorus that has toured Spain, Brazil, and Argentina. Meredith has been an early music enthusiast since she was a young child singing in her father’s madrigal ensemble, and she is just thrilled to be a part of this project.
